comprehension

sometimes
i take that back all the time
it's hard for me to
understand
your mind

maybe i don't have enough
fabric
in my own
the tarp of my brain
can't handle trying to wrap
itself around yours

maybe i've just used it up
maybe there's nothing left
but scraps,
piecework, the bits
and slices

lemons are to lemonade
as mud is to mudpies
that mother speech resides
in my dna.
perhaps the worst is yet
to come.
so brace yourself, bridget.

complete comprehension of life
can be located
at the corner of 35E and yankee doodle road.
perhaps you've been given
the keys
to
joy

As a favorite TV character used to say, "Understanding is a three-edged sword..." whatever the hell that means. I don't get me. No one should attempt to get me. I have never been "gotten." And if you understand any of that, you're closer than you've ever been.
